Special Projects - Otsego County School Recycling Program

In 2006, Wildlife Learning Company contracted with the Otsego County Solid Waste Department to provide support services to schools throughout Otsego County to establish or help improve school recycling. The project includes a solid waste assessment of the school site, meetings with key partners within the school community (administrators, cafeteria managers, custodial staff, teachers, students, parents), recommendations for a recycling implementation plan, links to educational resources, data sheets, instructions for reporting data, facilitation with each school's contracted hauler, a kickoff presentation for students & limited technical support following each programs start.

In addition, there is funding for limited supplies (scales, etc.) through Wildlife Learning Company from a 2006 grant from New York State Association for Reduction, Reuse and Recycling. Schools are required to register with the GoGreen Initiative and report quarterly data in order to qualify for the NYSAR3 funding. Information about GoGreen can be found here.

We are looking forward to seeing other schools throughout Otsego County follow the example and the commitment of the four participating schools this fall.
